This text aims to present and reflect on the strengths and limits of prosopography, having in consideration its advantages and challenges. The article therefore does not intend to discuss, as other authors have mentioned, whether prosopography is a technique, a method, a methodology or an exact science, but rather to understand how to evaluate its use. in this way and through a literature review, we understand that it is more appropriate to use it when we want to study more recent historical periods, however always being careful in what concerns validating the obtained information.
