The authors discuss terms and concepts included in the "definitions" of Decreto nº. 199/XIV of the National Portuguese Assembly Republic, considering that the expression "medically assisted death" is equivocal and incorrect. They argue that the determining criterion of "death by the will of the person himself" in the context of this diploma is intolerable suffering and not the diagnosed disease.
