CHAVES, Catarina et al. Guídelínes for Management of Postoperatíve Hypoparathyroídísm. Medicina Interna [online]. 2022, vol.29, n.2, pp.81-86.  Epub Sep 01, 2022. ISSN 0872-671X.  https://doi.org/10.24950/rspmi.652.

The regulation of the blood calcium level is achieved through parathyroid hormone (PTH) and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin O, the active metabolite of vitamin D. Hypocalcemia may be associated wíth a spectrum of clinical manifestations, from mild to severe symptoms, which can endanger the patient's life. Most cases of acute hypocalcemia occur in the context of hypoparathyroidism secondary to cervical surgery, due to the removal or destruction of the parathyroid glands. The main purpose of this protocol is to provide the information needed to prevent, diagnose and treat hypocalcemia in adult patients in a postoperative context.
