Abstract

COSTA, P. et al. Avaliação multifactorial da qualidade de vida em doentes gastrectomizados por cancro gástrico: estudo piloto de métodos de avaliação. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2006, vol.13, n.4, pp.174-180. ISSN 0872-8178.

A group of 18 patients with long survival after surgery for gastric cancer were evaluated for quality of life (QL). The initial assessment of QL used three separate tests: a symptom inquiry, the FLIC test (Functional living index - cancer) and the Korenaga index. Nutritional status, haematological and bone metabolism were also assessed. Five years later we were able to repeat the QL tests on nine of the eighteen patients. The indexes of the three tests were generally good or very good, either in the first assessment or in the later. All three tests showed statistical correlation among them. Significant correlations were also evident between some tests and biological markers such as haemoglobin and albumin as well as the body mass index. The use of these tests, displaying a wide spectrum of QL indicators, was able to discriminate patients with different surgical operations. We believe this group of tests is well adapted to study our patient population and can be very useful in the systematic follow-up of patients operated on for gastric cancer.
