Clinical research in Portugal can be promoted through the development of a Registry Programme coordinated by a Central office with professional staff. This registry Programme can be promoted by a Scientific Society and deal with specific areas of knowledge. The data sent by the participating centers will allow the creation of large databases. The information collected can serve not only to give a benchmarking to the centers but also to perform clinical research that can be competitive at the international level. This registry programme can serve as the basis for the future development of clinical trials.
