LIMA, P. A. L. et al. Avaliação dos níveis plasmáticos de IGF-1, glicose e insulina no pré e pós-operatório de pacientes submetidos à cirurgia de Fobi-Capella. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2008, vol.15, n.5, pp.195-201. ISSN 0872-8178.

Aim: To evaluate and compare plasmatic levels of IGF-1, glucose and insulin, before and after surgery  of patients submitted to the Fobi-Capella surgery. Patients and Methods: This study was transversal and descriptive,  in which blood samples of 45 individuals were assessed.Patients were divided into 4 groups: Non-Obese, Pre-operation, 45-day post-operation and 1-year post operation patients, in pairs with the criteria of height and gender being used .The following were analyzed: IMC, weight, IGF-1, glucose and basal insulin. Results: It has been observed that the average weight and IMC were significantly reduced one year after bariatric surgery (55,0% and 42,2%, respectively). Levels of IGF-1 were lower in obese patients when compared to the eutrophitos; 45 days following surgery, there was an additional drop of 30,1% (from 197,1 ± 71,7ng/mL to  137,8 ± 86,5ng/mL) and 1-year after surgery patients had average results similar to those observed in non-obese patients(251,5 ± 98,7ng/mL and 329,1 ± 89,8ng/mL). Glucose levels in patients submitted to surgery, both at 45-days (86,2 ± 8,5mg/dL) and 1-year (82,5 ± 9,2mg/dL) were lower than  those seen before surgery (94,5 ± 23,7mg/dL); These levels were similar to those observed in non-obese patients. Average insulin levels on 45-day post-operation patients (9,3 ± 4,9uU/mL) and one-year post-operation patients (6,7 ± 4,4uU/mL) were lower than the results found on the preoperation patients (62,6 ± 47,5uU/mL) with similar figures to those observed in non-obese patients. Conclusion: These data suggest that the Fobi-Capella surgery tends to regularize the IGF-1, glucose and insulin levels.
