Abstract

QUINTELA, Cátia et al. A rare form of gastropathy. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.3, pp.108-111. ISSN 0872-8178.

Ménétrier disease represents a rare gastric hyperproliferative disorder limited to the body and fundus associated with foveolar hyperplasia. The authors describe a case of a 48-year-old man admitted to the hospital due to epigastric pain. He had no known diseases. The hematological and biochemical tests revealed low albumin. Endoscopy showed giant gastric folds in the body and fundus. Histopathology: hyperplasia involving the surface and foveolar mucous cells. Endosonography: giant gastric mucosal folds (increase of the mucosal layer). The CT scan revealed: increase in mucosal folds. After appropriate treatment there was clinical, endoscopic and histological improvement.
