Abstract

BENTO, Ana et al. Gastric Volvulus - A case Report. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.5, pp.223-226. ISSN 0872-8178.

Gastric volvulus is an uncommon cause of gastric occlusion/obstruction. It may present either in an acute or in a chronic form. In our case, an 80 years-old female presented chronic complaints, punctuated by a series of acute episodes of upper abdominal pain and vomiting, followed by retching without vomit. At this point, an upper GI tract follow-through confirmed the diagnosis of gastric volvulus. All exams performed during previous asymptomatic periods had been normal. Surgical treatment consisted of parcial gastrectomy. The lack of specific symptoms delays diagnosis in many of these patients. However, appropriate treatment demands prompt diagnosis.
