PACHECO, Ana Filipa Gonçalves Gago. (Un)sustainability of the youngest: The price for older generations. Forum Sociológico [online]. 2022, n.40, pp.49-58.  Epub 29-Jul-2022. ISSN 0872-8380.  https://doi.org/10.4000/sociologico.10490.

The number of elderly people has grown continuously over the years, occupying a prominent place in current studies and discussions. If, on the one hand, the closest family plays a key role as an informal network that provides support in caring for the elderly, on the other hand, adult children also need the support of their parents. In this article, aiming at a better understanding of this phenomenon, with the contributions of authors such as Suiter, Glasser and Drake, a qualitative investigation was carried out using semi-structured exploratory interviews. The analysis indicates that elderly parents believe they provide more support to their adult children than the opposite, and that, in general, all these parents seem to assimilate the support provided as a parental responsibility, without reflecting much on its effects.

Palavras-chave : support; intergenerational; familiar.
