Abstract

CARDOSO, Kaique; LANZA, Fabio  and  RODRIGUES, Donizete. Migration and religion in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon: Understandings and problems of young Brazilians. Forum Sociológico [online]. 2022, n.41, pp.37-46.  Epub Dec 30, 2022. ISSN 0872-8380.  https://doi.org/10.4000/sociologico.10814.

In this article we analyse the religious landscape and migratory processes that exist between Brazil and Portugal, focusing on the life path of three religious Brazilian young migrants residing in the metropolitan area of Lisbon. Starting from a microsociology perspective, appreciating the narratives and primary oral sources, an analytical comprehension was sought considering the socioeconomic panorama of both countries, enabling the delimitation of theoretical and methodological approaches. It was observed that the problems and migratory motivation of the young subjects deviate from classical explanations associated exclusively with financial reasons. Thus, a religious context was evidenced as an encouragement of the migratory process through prophecies, dreams and diverse signs that lead and help young people. Therefore, this article contributes to the expansion of the debate about migratory processes, specifically to the understanding of the Brazilian religious youth living in the metropolitan area of Lisbon.
