Abstract

FIGUEIRA, Sónia; MOTA, Mauro  and  DIAS, Antónia Madureira. Immobilization techniques performed in pre-hospital care in pediatric trauma - scoping review protocol. Mill [online]. 2021, n.esp9, pp.161-170.  Epub Dec 07, 2021. ISSN 0873-3015.  https://doi.org/10.29352/mill029e.25338.

Introduction:

Trauma is the main preventable cause of pediatric mortality. It is up to prehospital health professionals to use various immobilization techniques to improve the clinical outcome of these victims and the resulting comorbidities. The anatomical and physiological specificities found in this age group mean that the evidence found on the typology and immobilization techniques is scarce and dispersed.

Objetive:

Identify and map immobilization techniques in pediatric trauma victims.

Methods:

The scoping review will follow the JBI methodology, using a search strategy in peer-reviewed online databases (CINAHL Plus, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, systematic reviews of the JBI database and reports Cochrane database implementation and systematic reviews) and gray literature (RCAAP, OpenGrey: System Information Gray Literature in Europe, CAPES Thesis Bank) from 2001 to 2021. Data will be independently analyzed and extracted by two researchers for statistical analysis descriptive and quantitative appropriate.

Results:

In the care and management of trauma victims, pre-hospital health professionals base their decision-making on the balance of several factors: the time spent in applying complex immobilization equipment (for example, the extraction vest), the cost of immobilization equipment, contraindications in the use of some immobilization equipment, the duration of transport and the evacuation road network, the effects on the victim's comfort, the risk of respiratory compromise and hemodynamic complications caused by possible pressures from the immobilization of the fastening straps.

Conclusion:

The Review will serve to identify the immobilization techniques used in the pediatric population, according to the type and location of the trauma, and will allow to identify research gaps. The studies will be classified according to the immobilization techniques used, the clinical specificities in their selection and the professionals who apply them will be described.

Keywords : emergency medical services; prehospital care; wounds and injuries; child, immobilization.
