Abstract

CONTADOR, António Concorda. A música e o processo de identificação dos jovens negros portugueses. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2001, n.36, pp.109-120. ISSN 0873-6529.

Looking at the issue from a theoretical point of view, this article seeks to provide evidence of the correlations between the particularities of the musical choices made by young black Portuguese and their construction of a discourse about their notion of identity. This correlation requires a sociological analysis that employs concepts such as performance and narrative. On the one hand it reveals the aesthetic and ongoing, incomplete nature of the identification process; on the other it reflects a change of perspective in relation to the references that second-generation immigrants validate and appropriate in order to consolidate an identity which is no longer dual or Luso-African, but has definitively taken on a multiple character.

Keywords : Music; identification process; young black Portuguese.
