Abstract

DEROUE, Jean-Louis. The sociology of inequalities in education in a critical society. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2004, n.45, pp.131-143. ISSN 0873-6529.

The sociology of education was re-founded in France between 1960 and 1970, on the basis of criticism of the inequalities in education. This criticism was widely disseminated in the society. In the meantime, it has become common sense and has been picked up by a new administration that lays a high value on the independence of institutions and the initiative of the actors. The question therefore becomes one of knowing how sociology can rebuild a certain detachment from a society that has assimilated its results and ways of thinking and has transformed them into management instruments. This article attempts to present some new leads in this respect. It is particularly important to resist the trend that diminishes the political debate in the face of technical management and to keep schools inside the space of political justification

Keywords : Political sociology; critical culture; equality of education; epistemology.
