Abstract

PINTO, José Madureira. The development of sociology in Portugal: training, recent trends and future prospects. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2004, n.46, pp.11-31. ISSN 0873-6529.

This work seeks to explain certain specificities in the training and institutionalization processes associated with sociology in Portugal, taking into consideration the nature of the processes of social and political change and, in certain aspects, the dynamics of the intellectual environment that exists in the country. It also reflects on possible developments of the subject in the future, in a context where research has been internationalized and the profiles of the search for knowledge have changed. This context may generate creative and productive developments, thanks to the maturity of the theoretical and epistemological reflection that characterizes Portuguese sociology.

Keywords : History of sociology; Portuguese sociology.
