Abstract

ANTUNES, Fátima. Globalization and europeanisation of educational policies: pathways, processes and transformations. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2005, n.47, pp.125-143. ISSN 0873-6529.

This article focuses on one of the levels which over recent decades has become increasingly important in shaping the field of education, the supranational level. We focus our attentions on the European Union, and investigate the way education has been viewed and defined in the Community context and the potential implications of these processes at the level of member-states’ educational systems. Today’s processes of Europeanisation and establishment of an overall European frame of reference for educational policies are far more concentrated, broader and deeper in the scope of intervention than those which prevailed even ten years ago. In this sense, the European Union, and other regional inter-governmental platforms such as the Bologna process, are instances of mediation which generate, filter and convey the processes of globalization.

Keywords : European Union and education; Bologna process.
