Abstract

ABREU, Alzira Alves de. The media in the transition to democracy in Brazil. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2005, n.48, pp.53-65. ISSN 0873-6529.

The text deals with the paths followed by the media during the transition from the authoritarian military regime to democracy in Brazil. It seeks to describe how the media took part in the struggle for a return to democracy, its actions and strategies for denouncing censorship and military oppression. But the behaviour of the media in this process in Brazil has only recently been examined by historians and social scientists. A number of explanations for this omission are presented in the text.

Keywords : Media; authoritarian regime; transition to democracy.
