Abstract

Internationally, advocacy has known a significant growth in the last decades, breeding herein the professionals the perception that there has been a wide dismantlement of the constraints which regulated the access to the profession and, within, the most capitalized positions. Making a study based upon the Portuguese advocacy its keystone, the fallacy of this idea will be uncovered - advocacy’s inner segmentation today allows it to remain a topos of the reproduction of the dominant classes. It will also be stressed that the mechanisms that steer this process contribute to conceal it, for they tend to be shorten to factors rooted in an asocial conception of the individual merit.
