Abstract

ALCANIZ, Mercedes. Reconciliation and social segmentation strategies: a double inequality. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2013, n.73, pp.35-57. ISSN 0873-6529.  https://doi.org/10.7458/SPP2013732806.

The incorporation of women into the labour market has implied a reorganisation of the gender division of work, but has not released women from the performance of their traditional role with regard to tasks in the domestic and caring fields. In order to be able to do this double day’s work, women - occasionally with the participation of their spouses - choose strategies to enable them to reconcile these dimensions. This article presents these strategies and relates them with both structural sociological variables, such as social position and occupation, and gender ideology. The author’s goal is to determine the articulation between the two, and their links to inequality.

Keywords : reconciliation; gender; inequality; production; reproduction.
