Abstract

DUARTE, Vera. Multiple faces of female juvenile delinquency: contributions to the construction of a transgressive path typology. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2015, n.78, pp.49-66. ISSN 0873-6529.  https://doi.org/10.7458/SPP2015783640.

In response to the predominance of the male in studies on juvenile delinquency, this article explores one of the latter’s invisible faces - delinquency by girls. A discussion of the “single story” that has been constructed about female juvenile delinquency is accompanied by the presentation of results from qualitative research conducted as part of a doctoral thesis on experiences and meanings of transgression in the life paths of girls subject to youth custody, protection and re-education measures in Portugal. An analysis of individual processes and interviews allowed the author to draw up sociological portraits that in turn made it possible to outline transgressive paths which show the heterogeneity of female delinquency and (re)situate the young women as social subjects.

Keywords : female juvenile delinquency; transgressive paths; sociological portraits; qualitative research.
