Abstract

MARQUES, Adalton. “Leadership”, “proceder” and “equality”: an ethnography of political relations in the First Command of the Capital. Etnográfica [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.2, pp.311-335. ISSN 0873-6561.

Based on the transcription ipsis verbis of the statement of Marcos Willians Herbas Camacho (Marcola) by the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Weapons Traffic and also on ethnographic data on the “proceder” and political relations between prisoners in São Paulo, Brazil, obtained among current or ex-prisoners, their families, and prison employees, I want to point out the instauration of a complex difficulty of communication between (me,) the enquirers and the inquired around the notion of “leadership”. Betting in the reflexive potential resulting from the mapping of this regional system of struggle, where lines of force are the (auto)descriptions about “leadership” - that present different conceptualizations and different judgments - I intended to make an indicator of the complexity degree of social life in prisons “of the PCC”, in short, an analogous complexity.

Keywords : Leadership; “proceder”; equality; First Command of the Capital (PCC); political relations; prison.
