Resumen

MULLER, Juliane  y  GARCIA JEREZ, Adolfo. “The other football”: practices and discourses about football as a motor for social integration of immigrants in Spain. Etnográfica [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.1, pp.121-143. ISSN 0873-6561.

This article deals with the organisation and realisation of South American migrant football leagues and so-called Small World-Championships for migrants in Spain in recent years. We start from a practical (habitus) and poststructuralist perspective that emphasizes the role of discourse and power in the production of social order. The aim is to analyse narratives and practices of all social groups involved in the organisation of migrant football. We are particularly interested in migrants’ utterances and how they strategically appropriate the dominant language in order to legitimate their positions, self-represent themselves according to their interests and make public their demands. For this reason, a comparative and multi-local research has been undertaken in Madrid, Seville, Malaga and Granada applying an ethnographic approach, participant observation and interviews with players, organisers and experts of migrant football leagues and championships.

Palabras clave : football; Spain; Latin American immigration; discourse; integration; multiculturalism.
