This article describes the transformations in Portuguese anthropology during the 1990s, both as experienced by the author in connections to North American and Brazilian anthropology and as experienced by the community of Portuguese social scientists, which hosted in 1990 two international conferences that were key to the dynamics of internationalization in that decade: the first EASA meeting and the first Luso-Afro-Brazilian Social Sciences Conference.
