Abstract

KOURY, Mauro Guilherme Pinheiro. Solidarity and conflict in intensely personalized processes of daily interaction. Etnográfica [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.3, pp.521-549. ISSN 0873-6561.

The main objective of this article is to understand the social relations in the daily routine of a neighborhood intensely person-bounded and considered one of the ten most violent neighborhoods in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil. Having local residents as main interpreters, it aims to discuss the process of sociability in the neighborhood and the processes of justification that support new forms of solidarity and conflict. The understanding of the elements of person-boundedness in the neighborhood is deepened by taking the ordinary fears as organizers of the researcher’s gaze. The analytical focus is the micro-sociology of emotions that are present and signified by residents in the process of constructing the neighborhood and in the investments of gratitude and trust shown in the configuration of everyday social relations.

Keywords : sociability; person-boundedness; symbolic boundaries; ordinary fears; processes of justification.
