Abstract

LOPEZ, José Antonio Mansilla. Social movements and collective appropriation in post-15M Barcelona: the role of Poblenou's Social Assembly. Etnográfica [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.1, pp.77-97. ISSN 0873-6561.

The irruption of the 15M movement in the political and social scene of the Spanish State during 2011 entailed, beyond a doubt, an excellent chance to see how the main theories about social movements could explain a relatively new phenomenon. The main studies about the 15M movement have suggested an approach to the movement under the consideration of a direct democracy laboratory. Nevertheless, from an ethnographic and widely descriptive point of view, this article, about the Assemblea Social del Poblenou (Barcelona) as one of the heirs of this movement in its decentralization to the different neighborhoods of the city, tries to show its relationship with the urban conflicts and struggles therein. To that end, we focus on two actions of collective appropriation carried out by this assembly.

Keywords : social movements; conflicts; city; Barcelona; 15M; Poblenou.
