Abstract

BAZZO, Juliane. Multi-sited fieldwork and reflexivity in an ethnography on the agency of the bullying notion in contemporary Brazil. Etnográfica [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.3, pp.587-609.  Epub Nov 25, 2021. ISSN 0873-6561.  https://doi.org/10.4000/etnografica.10582.

This article discusses the theoretical and ethnographic contributions employed to contemplate the multi-sited nature of an anthropological study on the agency of the bullying notion in the contemporary Brazilian context. Such enterprise was characterized by hybridizing different contexts - educational, governmental, scientific, media and market -, at micro, intermediate and macro scales of research. An investigative architecture along these lines is not given beforehand, but outlined in the course of an ethnographic journey in which reflexivity appears maximized, considering that the anthropologist not only needs to think about his object of study, but simultaneously analyze all the time the boundaries of his fieldwork. To illustrate this process, the article narrates ethnographic events through which holographic and complex links between the different contexts and scales have been established, at the same time significant to the researcher and her interlocutors for the purposes of the investigation.

Keywords : multi-sited ethnography; reflexivity; bullying; agency; contemporary Brazil.
