Abstract

SANCHEZ, María Soledad. Following checks: financial practices between the legal and the ilegal in Buenos Aires’ financieras. Etnográfica [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.1, pp.149-164.  Epub May 05, 2022. ISSN 0873-6561.  https://doi.org/10.4000/etnografica.11371.

This article analyses the financial circuit of the so-called financieras, of great relevance for the daily financial life of individuals, businesses and small companies whose economy is partially or totally informal in Argentina. Following the empirical circulation of the checks that are informally bought and sold in two financieras in Buenos Aires, it reconstructs the complex network of agents, social relations and practices that conect the legal, the informal and the illegal dimensions of economy and finance. It also problematizes the social conditions of informal financial relationships, based on the analysis of personal and impersonal trust devices that allow to produce transactions, evaluating financial agents, clients and checks economically and morally.

Keywords : checks; financieras; informal; financial market; credit.
