Abstract

VELIZ, Claudio Araya  and  RAMIREZ, Gianni López. Mindfulness, steps towards a conscious consumption. Economia Global e Gestão [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.3, pp.75-89. ISSN 0873-7444.

Economic development today is based on promoting consumption. In this promotion, people are exposed to fall within a circle of satisfaction - dissatisfaction that pulls them to acquire new goods and services. This behavior promotes the economic growth, but increases personal suffering and distress. To increase the psychological skills through practice of mindfulness in the present moment allows people to empower their own life projects, allowing themselves to work in implementing actions that maximize their welfare. The promotion of these skills will affect the personal demand for goods and services, putting them at the service of a more aware and active life plan. From the evidence of the positive effects of mindfulness practice, psychological and neurobiological, it’s been developed a model of conscious consumption.

Keywords : Mindfulness; Conscious Consumer; Emotional Regulation; Economic Development.
