Connections between the historical context and increase in the number of nursing schools in Southeast and Southern Brazil. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2010, vol.serIII, n.1, pp.73-80. ISSN 0874-0283.
The aim of this historical and social study was to: survey the number of nursing schools in south and southeast Brazil at the end of 2007; compare the number of courses linked to public institutions with those linked to private institutions in these regions; discuss the links between the historical context and the structure of these courses with regard to institutional affiliation. The primary research data were collected at the site of the Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Education and Research, and were categorized and statistically analyzed in 2008.The secondary sources that supported the study outcomes comprised: research reports, newspaper clippings, articles, books, theses, doctoral dissertations and websites addressing this topic. Comparative analysis of the data showed the importance of government policies aiming at the growth of private institutions dedicated to nursing education.
