Abstract

SILVA, Carmen Maria dos Santos Lopes Monteiro Dantas da; TANJI, Suzelaine; SANTOS, Neiva Maria Picinini  and  VIANA, Ligia de Oliveira. Environmental awareness in Nursing: reconstructing a better world with the contribution of students. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2010, vol.serIII, n.2, pp.35-43. ISSN 0874-0283.

The object of the study was the formation of graduating students of nursing having scenarios of well-taken care of learning/care which would serve as practical maintainers of a pedagogy that promotes experiences and skills for a sustainable environment. The objective was to identify the words and drawings produced by students in learning scenarios which contribute to the formation of an environmental awareness that would equip them for the nursing profession. The study was carried out from a qualitative perspective in a graduate nursing course in a Brazilian Institution of Higher Education. The participants were 41 students in the 1º period. Data collection took place in May 2009, by means of a single questionnaire with open questions. The data were analyzed and described in thematic units: theory-practice/humanization allows the formation of environmental awareness; experience-skills articulated with pedagogical practice promotes a sustainable environment; the social aspect was learned and worked as a learning-environment of care scenario and strengthened the nursing students. A social conscience can construct a better world.
