MARIANO, Grasielly Jeronimo dos Santos. Relactation: Identification of successful practices. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2011, vol.serIII, n.3, pp.163-170. ISSN 0874-0283.
Context: Relactation is a term used to describe women who have been pregnant at any time and want to produce milk to breastfeed a baby again, biological or not. Objective: The goal is to find out the number of women that can relactate after undergoing a Relactation process. Methodology: This is an integrative review of primary investigations found in main data bases such as MEDLINE, LILACS, IBECS and Journal of Nursing Referência, of wich 10 studies were included in the sample in order to identify the number of women who can succeed after undergoing this technique. Results: From the universe of 1.295 women, 1.135 relactated successfully, i.e. 87,6 % of the total. Conclusions: We conclude that the possibilities of success are high and justify the efforts undertaken by the mother, baby family and society. Health workers can use the information provided in this study to build strategies with strong arguments in favor of breastfeeding, not with the purpose of persuading, but mainly to help mothers to keep to their decisions and to re-establish lactation.
