Epidemiological levels of pressure ulcers (PU) in domiciliary care are higher than those in any other type of care in the Azores Region (AR). Our goal is to analyze the factors that influence nursing care for PU prevention in domiciliary care, so that they can be monitored or improved to provide quality care. A quantitative descriptive study, with an analytical intention, was carried out, and included all AR domiciliary care nurses. We analyzed the content of open questions, and this was followed by a quantitative analysis using the SPSS 16.0 statistical program. From this data analysis we showed that there is a small percentage of nurses who evaluate the risk of developing a PU; the majority of the nurses include the informal caregiver; the nurses’ training in this area is up-to-date. We found a reduced amount of pressure relief devices and a scarce availability of prevention protocols. The factors that positively or negatively influence satisfactory care, depending on its abundance or scarcity are: material resources and human resources; nursing training and internal prevention policies of the institutions. On the other hand, the frequency of domiciliary visits, involvement of caregivers and partnership with other healthcare professionals are enhancers of PU prevention.
