Abstract

PORTUGAL, Maria João; BRANCA, Susana  and  RODRIGUES, Manuel. Measurement data on the impact factor of scientific journals. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2011, vol.serIII, n.5, pp.211-215. ISSN 0874-0283.  https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII11UI4.

The evaluation of the “importance” of scientific articles, within their field (impact factor), became essential over time. This text aims to present and explain how to measure the impact factor as well as to show its inherent limitations, its interdisciplinary comparison and its development, in relation to nursing journals. Accordingly we searched databases and consulted the Journal Citation Reports, which is indexed to Science Citation Index, and where the values of impact factor of scientific journals from around the world are published on a yearly basis. The QUALIS classification and the inclusion of scientific journals in research databases of international disclosure are identified as preponderant to include the impact factor in the journals.

Keywords : impact factor; bibliometrics; classification; citation databases.
