Background:

The Nursing School of Coimbra knows the importance of extension units in the articulation between teaching, research, and extension. For this reason, the School has a Service Provision and Community Extension Activities Coordination Unit (UPSCCAEC).

Objective:

Main topics under analysis:

The reports of activities carried out within the scope of the UPSCCAEC in 2019 and 2020 were used as a data source. A comparison was made with findings in the two years, discussed based on the available theoretical framework and considering the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on Higher Education Institutions’ training, research, and extension processes.

Conclusion:

The UPSCCAEC’s activity in those years contributed to the institution’s excellence and academic development and successful response to the current societal challenges in a time of great instability due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
