Abstract

The present study stresses the importance of beliefs as related to academic learning, particularly adressing written composition. Present research envolving 103 júnior anda high school students (5th, 8th, llth grades) focused on the assessment of beliefs regarding functions and audiences belonging to three categories of writing: expressive, transactional and poetic. The autor reflects on the results with the aim of sugesting some general leads regarding educational intervention.
