We live in a world where the risks we take have huge media coverage. This paper presents some of the paths that Psychology has created to study the way we think about risk and how we face it. After a brief introduction on the psychological approach to risk perception, some studies conducted in Portugal will be summarized. These studies analyze risks which are usually underestimated (home injuries or work accidents) but also risks that are usually considered as dread (incineration).
