Abstract

ZAGO, Maria Cristina  and  TERZIS, Antonios. The relational‑game of a group of psychotic patients in physical activity: a psychoanalytic study. Psicologia [online]. 2012, vol.26, n.2, pp.67-85. ISSN 0874-2049.

This article is a research report that presented a treatment technique for Institutionalized psychotic patients in crisis. The aim of this research was to study the physical activity as a mitigating factor of psychotic symptoms, investigating, in this unconventional "setting", the group activities as a favorable element in the perception of others as relational objects. This approach was used as a procedure technique called Group of Physical Activities, which comprised three main stages: walk (round trip institution to a community sports park), sports activities and a symbolic closing of the session. The psychoanalysis represents the theoretical referential for discussion and interpretation of the results. It was concluded that the technique used has led the group towards psychic organization and generated an environment that nurtured the relationship amongst the components of the group, which constitutes itself a legitimate space for expressing affections. The physical activity provided a stage for the establishment of procedures of identification, by acting in this sense as a facilitator of inter‑subjective contact, here and now. Hence, this unconventional "setting" acted to alleviate psychotic symptoms, allowing the subject to restore his/her ties with the outside world.
