The article starts with the explanation of changes of the legal framework which have modified labour contracts in Brazil and Italy. Subsequently, the article focuses on both critical points and equal opportunity policies at national level. For the Brazilian case focus is on issues and institutional process which react to discriminations. The Italian situation shows different programs of promotion of equal opportunity which have been realized thank of the boost of European Union directives. Differences between Brazil and Italy are not based just on emphasis, but they are due to different theoretical resources.
