This paper deals with the feminist movement’s role in the redemocratization process of Brazilian society and its educational policies. The State of São Paulo is specifically focused on due to the important role it has played since the 1970’s. On the other hand, it approaches specially the decade of 1980, when changes were generated and broken out with the promulgation of the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, in 1988. Thus, this historical cutting from the 1980’s till the end of the 1990’s was chosen for being important for legislation analysis and federal reforms in the area of public administration and education, all of them towards democratization of Brazilian society, and when the subject genderis taken into account in national education policy. Finally, the article indicates currentactions taken favouring gender equality at school
