Abstract
BRANDAO, Ana Maria. Queer, but not much: Gender, sexuality, and identity in womens life-stories. Ex aequo [online]. 2009, n.20, pp.81-96. ISSN 0874-5560.
Based on an empirical research supported on the life-stories of women involved in homo-erotic relationships, this article discusses some proposals of queer theory, exploring the relevance of the concept of performativity and the theses of the fluidity of identity to research on identities. Especially, one examines the extent to which the interviewees share a vision of the relations between gender, desire, and identity as being fluid, incoherent, and unstable; how the vision they defend is linked to the sexual identity they claim; and how that identity is constructed through practices of body shaping and self-presentation. Results suggest the need to expand the analysis of the points of tension between gender and sexuality.
Keywords : Performativity; queer theory; identity; female homo-eroticism.
