Abstract

MIRANDA, Patrícia. Inhabit a sexualized body: gender identities built in a ambiguous modernity. Ex aequo [online]. 2010, n.22, pp.59-75. ISSN 0874-5560.

This paper is based in the results of a research about the social construction of gender identigties in children. In the context of reflexive modernity characterized by individualization and the possibility of an identity project of self, we could see little space for gender «performativity» and individuals living ambiguities and tensions in inhabiting their sexualized bodies, inhabited by a naturalized sex. Nevertheless, it was possible to see some gender transversality, pointing to the importance of reflecting on the deconstruction of the normalized gender binary.

Keywords : Gender; identity; body; individualization; socialization.
