WADI, Shahd. The Explosion of the Uterus: Palestinian Women between the Patriarchal and the Colonial. Ex aequo [online]. 2010, n.22, pp.77-94. ISSN 0874-5560.

In different wars throughout history, women and their bodies were always considered «objects» of different conflicting forces to practice their power and influence. Since the Israeli occupation of Palestine in 1948, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has become one of the most complicated in modern history. The Palestinian nationalist patriarchal discourse consider the bodies of Palestinian women as a weapon against the women themselves and against the enemy, while Israel uses the same bodies to control the Palestinian people in general. Palestinian women, on the other hand, bring their bodies to be the resisting tool of its patriarchal society and the Israeli occupation at the same time. By analyzing the representations of Palestinian women's bodies in «life histories», this article looks through the resistance and silencing of women's bodies simultaneously and comparatively.

Palavras-chave : Palestinian women; Israeli occupation; body; culture of honor.
