Resumen

PIMENTEL, Luísa. The sex of the angels: caring for the well-being dependent elderly people as a mainly feminine role. Ex aequo [online]. 2011, n.23, pp.23-37. ISSN 0874-5560.

Due the limited coverage of formal social support networks and the importance of family care for the well-being dependent elderly people, informal solidarities have recently re-attained great meaning. This fact neglects the impact that it can have on women's trajectories and does not consider the effort that women have made to demarcate themselves from the roles that were traditionally assigned for them. The main aim of this text is to reflect about the women's role in caring of dependent elderly people. To reach this aim, we used the results of a qualitative research, based on 34 caregivers' testimony.

Palabras clave : family solidarity; elderly people; feminisation of care.
