Abstract

VIEIRA, Paulo Jorge. Mobilities, Migrations and Sexual Orientations. Ex aequo [online]. 2011, n.24, pp.45-59. ISSN 0874-5560.

This text is a theoretical reflection on the relationship between mobility, migration and sexual orientations and aims to open up prospects for a possible framework on this research, in Portugal, in this subject area, that links the interdisciplinary areas of migration studies and queer studies. We present a set of thoughts that traverse, metaphorically and materially, the forms of mobility with sexual orientation by examining the metaphor of ‘coming out’, reflecting on the centrality of urban spaces as attractive spots for lesbians and gay men, and need to rethink and redefine the research on international migration with particular attention to examples involving political asylum.

Keywords : mobilities; migrations; sexual orientation; politic asylum; queer.
