Abstract

AMARO, Marisa Caroço. Prostitution in the digital era: analysis of Internet advertisings’ structures and subjects. Ex aequo [online]. 2011, n.24, pp.61-78. ISSN 0874-5560.

Globalization and the Internet culture are two important factors in the configuration of the sex industry, as they have promoted a major change in its social role, as well as supply and demand. In this light, this article aims to offer an empirical approach to a complex reality and, in turn, an invisible one as that of sex workers engaged in the sex industry providing their escort services advertised on the Internet. Thus, there are various basic precepts and goals set by this study: firstly, to uncover information about escort agencies in Spain or individuals who offer these kinds of services on the Internet, to subsequently further analyze other active agents in this sector, such as the case of the client.

Keywords : escort; agency; internet; prostitution.
