This study analyses some of the strategies for tackling domestic violence against women, having as analytical cutting the Brazilian legislation, and its materialization in Guarapuava, a city located in the South region of Brazil. Data collection was based on interviews and documentary analysis. The research’s results gave evidence of advances in the public politics and the specific legislation for the combat of the domestic violence against women in Brazil. However, there is still a gap between what is provided by law and what is achieved on the daily life of violated and injured women in the domestic space. That is mainly in the strict actuation in the security field without specialized police service and without monitoring or prevention provided by Law. Moreover, there is an individual, philanthropic and fragmented vision of the domestic violence and such phenomena is invisible in the municipal policies, so there is a lack of expressive women’s movements in Guarapuava.
