Abstract

This article aims to contribute to the understanding of the dynamics between the state and women’s movements. Particular attention is given to the relationship between them, political parties and the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality as an official equality mechanism. The process of institutionalization of movements is analyzed taking into account their different phases and respective foundations and effects. Finally, we explore the main challenges faced by state feminism and women’s movements in Portugal.
