Resumen

SILVEIRINHA, Maria Joao. Rethinking the policies on women and the media: or on how crucial feminist studies of communication are. Ex aequo [online]. 2012, n.25, pp.91-104. ISSN 0874-5560.

The recognition of the role of communication in the articulation of concerns and needs of women and the role of media in the transformation of these same concerns and needs into public issues are key matters in feminist communication research. But this research has encountered numerous difficulties in its translation into mechanisms of national and international decision-making actions seeking to identify and offer solutions to the problems experienced by women. Starting from a brief analysis of the work done this field, the text proposes specific mechanisms for monitoring public policies and suggests that such mechanisms are accompanied by policies that recognize the freedom of women’s right to be informed in their own perspectives and to make their voices heard.

Palabras clave : Public policies; feminist media studies; policy indicators.
