Abstract

BRANDAO, Ana Maria. Between women: Gender and representations of intimate relationships. Ex aequo [online]. 2012, n.25, pp.151-164. ISSN 0874-5560.

In late modernity, intimate relationships have been shaped by an egalitarian ideal, which is reinforced, in the case of homo-erotic relationships, by gender homogamy and the need to construct new conjugality models. Female homo-erotic relationships, particularly, have been equated as a refusal of women’s conformity to male power and potentially subversive of the gender order. In this article, one discusses how certain representations of the female homo-erotic relationship convey a reproduction of the binary thought that perceives gender as its core and most valued element, questioning its ability to subvert the dominant order.

Keywords : egalitarianism; female homo-eroticism; gender inequality.
