Abstract

JARDIM, Laíse Navarro  and  PERUCCHI, Juliana. Gender barriers in Brazilian HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns for the late adulthood. Ex aequo [online]. 2012, n.26, pp.103-117. ISSN 0874-5560.

This article analyses the governmental education campaigns on HIV/AIDS prevention aimed at the elderly population produced by Brazilian Ministry of Health and disseminated on national media between 2008 and 2009. Only two campaigns were made with this focus in this period and its analysis by the Foucauldian perspective of discourse analysis showed that despite these media strategies produced by the Brazilian State signify advances in the visibility of this issue, these are punctual interventions with no continuity over the years. Besides, such campaigns are marked by stereotypes and gender hierarchies.

Keywords : aids; elderly; gender; media; public health.
