Resumen

NADAL, Gemma. Maria Archer: an amateur ethnographer in the colonial press. Ex aequo [online]. 2019, n.39, pp.89-103. ISSN 0874-5560.  https://doi.org/10.22355/exaequo.2019.39.06.

Starting from the case study of three Maria Archer articles - a Portuguese writer that began to write inside the canon of colonial literature and then followed a literary and ideological evolution that led her to being pursued by the political police (PIDE) and to exile in Brazil - published in the magazine Portugal Colonial, this paper intends to analyse in this paper their ethnographic dimension and to give visibility to feminine participation in the Portuguese colonial press. Thus, the aim is to scrutinize the spaces and forms by which the colonial press allowed female authors to be published, the need to claim feminine genealogies and the processes of erasure of women that did not follow the rules.

Palabras clave : Maria Archer; colonial literature; colonial periodical press; Portugal Colonial; amateur ethnography.
